BlueScope Steel notified relevant authorities of a number of statutory non-compliances with environmental regulations during 2004/05. Most of these were relatively minor in nature and related to the Port Kembla Steelworks.
As reported in last year's Health, Safety Environment and Community Report, BlueScope Steel received a fine of $70,000 under the Protection of Environment Operations Act (NSW) 1977, in July 2004, over an incident at the Port Kembla Steelworks in March 2003, where a failure to maintain equipment resulted in air emissions.
There were no significant environmental incidents recorded during 2004/05 and no other environmental fines were incurred.
