At BlueScope Steel, we pride ourselves on being a good corporate citizen and contributor to the communities in which we operate around the world. We aim to make a positive impact on people's lives and to build a sense of community.
We enter into collaborative partnerships with community groups that are based on building trust and mutual respect and are sustainable over the long term. This community engagement is embraced across all our businesses around the world.
We aim to communicate regularly and openly with all stakeholders and seek to demonstrate the respect we have for the wide range of cultures represented in our workforce and our communities.
Our support is mainly focussed at the local level and targeted at nurturing youth, assisting with educational programs, developing community facilities and supporting the arts and cultural activities. These priorities are established through community and employee consultation. We also support emergency services and provide assistance in times of crisis.
In 2004/05 we spent more than A$2 million on community programs around the world. In kind support was also provided, in the form of products and materials and our employees' time, energy, skills and experience.
Our community activities are guided by Community Relations Management Plans, which underpin our efforts to deliver on our promises and identify opportunities for improvement.
As Our Bond says, "our communities are our homes" and we continue to strive to be a valued member of the communities in which we live and work.
